| | The Medical Acoustic Research (MAR) Lab focuses on the development and application of noninvasive pre-clinical evaluation tools for total joint replacements. Medical acoustic technology is used to confront the demands of continually changing design, manufacturing, and evaluation of orthopedic prosthetic devices. The MAR lab develops new acoustic technology that utilizes the latest scientific and engineering achievements for medical applications. The laboratory provides an environment for multi-discipline collaboration and opportunities for students at all levels to participate in research activities. We investigate variations of elastic modulus at the bone-implant interface after healing and mesenchymal stem cells in growth plate cartilage repair. Other projects include comparison of AFM images of indentation impression of wild type with that of gene-mutated bone and 3D Finite Element Analysis of the effects of anisotropy on mechanical properties of bone. |
